Volunteer

Everything we do, from Shabbat services to programs events and holiday gatherings, happens with the help of many pairs of hands. Let us know what unique skills you have and we will put them to use!

  • Hunger & Health Coalition is a local
non-profit that alleviates poverty in the High Country by providing access to healthy foods, prescription medications, and wraparound services.

    Each Wednesday from 1:00pm-4:00pm,
Temple of the High Country congregant Marilyn Ramo leads a team of about four volunteers in making sandwiches and bag lunches for those in need.

  • The Western Youth Network is a local non-profit that supports the youth of Avery & Watauga Counties through mentoring, summer camps, & after-school programs. Every summer, TotHC & WYN supporter Sandi Finci Solomon organizes a fun-filled event for young people of the High Country at her home in Boone. WYN is currently raising funds to build an income-accessible youth recreation facility in Boone.

  • Marcia Courage In Action is a registered 501(c)3 non profit committed to creating support, awareness and community with courage by taking action. The organization delivers comfort and courage through Courage Bags and Courage Meals to cancer warriors during their fight. Roughly four times a year, Temple youth gather in our social hall to fill backpacks – “Courage Bags” – with comfort items for those beginning cancer treatment at local hospitals in Watauga and Avery Counties. When they’re done, each backpack contains soft clothes, a fuzzy hat and socks, a pad to reduce seat belt friction on sensitive skin, anti-nausea supplies, a coloring book to ease the boredom of chemotherapy, and other personal items. The youth fill the bags and write personal notes of encouragement to include in each Courage Bag. Bags are delivered to area hospitals each quarter.

  • Housing that falls within the means of ordinary families is an ongoing challenge in Boone and Watauga County generally. The WCHT was launched in 2021 as a faith-based initiative to overcome this housing shortfall.
